1. INDEPENDENCE DAY 2026 THEME –

• India’s Independence Day in 2026 will be observed on 15th August, which will mark the 80th Independence Day of the country after gaining independence from the rule of the British in the year 1947, thus completing 79 years of its independence. This year’s Independence Day theme is “Yuva Shakti” (Youth Power), which highlights the contributions made by the youth of the country towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Theme of India’s 80th Independence Day 2026

• The theme of Independence Day 2026 is “Yuva Shakti” (Youth Power) and recognizes the contribution made by the Indian youth towards Viksit Bharat 2047. Viksit Bharat 2047 represents India’s aspirations to become a developed country in 100 years from the date it gained its independence.

स्वतंत्रता दिवस 2026 की थीम –

• भारत का स्वतंत्रता दिवस 2026 में 15 अगस्त को मनाया जाएगा। यह 1947 में ब्रिटिश शासन से आज़ादी मिलने के बाद देश का 80वां स्वतंत्रता दिवस होगा, जिससे आज़ादी के 79 साल पूरे हो जाएंगे। इस साल के स्वतंत्रता दिवस की थीम “युवा शक्ति” (Youth Power) है, जो ‘विकसित भारत 2047’ के विज़न में देश के युवाओं के योगदान को उजागर करती है।

• स्वतंत्रता दिवस 2026 की थीम “युवा शक्ति” (Youth Power) है और यह ‘विकसित भारत 2047’ की दिशा में भारतीय युवाओं के योगदान को मान्यता देती है। ‘विकसित भारत 2047’ आज़ादी मिलने के 100 साल बाद भारत के एक विकसित देश बनने की आकांक्षाओं को दर्शाता है।

 

2. GOVT DEBT-TO-GDP RATIO HITS 58.2% IN FY26-

• The debt-to-GDP ratio of the Government of India was 58.2%, which was 210 basis points more than the government’s target of 56.1%, revealed Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary. This reflects the ongoing problem of lowering the debt of the government without compromising on fiscal strength amid uncertainties in the global economy. For FY27, the Centre has set a debt-to-GDP target of 55.6%, implying that it has to bring down the ratio by 260 basis points further. The government also intends to utilize the fiscal buffers, such as the ₹1 trillion Economic Stabilisation Fund.

• As per the data released in Parliament, the outstanding liability of the Union government has decreased from 61.5% of GDP in FY21 to 58.2% in FY26.
• Nevertheless, the figure of FY26 was higher than the government’s target of 56.1%.
• The difference of 210 basis points suggests that the Centre could not meet its targeted level of lowering debt in FY26.
• For FY27, the Centre has set a lower target of 55.6%.

FY26 में सरकारी डेट-टू-GDP अनुपात 58.2% पर पहुंचा –

• वित्त राज्य मंत्री पंकज चौधरी ने बताया कि भारत सरकार का डेट-टू-GDP अनुपात 58.2% था, जो सरकार के 56.1% के लक्ष्य से 210 बेसिस पॉइंट अधिक था। यह वैश्विक अर्थव्यवस्था में अनिश्चितताओं के बीच वित्तीय मज़बूती से समझौता किए बिना सरकारी कर्ज़ को कम करने की चल रही चुनौती को दर्शाता है। FY27 के लिए, केंद्र ने 55.6% का डेट-टू-GDP लक्ष्य तय किया है, जिसका मतलब है कि उसे इस अनुपात को और 260 बेसिस पॉइंट कम करना होगा। सरकार ₹1 ट्रिलियन के ‘इकोनॉमिक स्टेबलाइज़ेशन फंड’ (आर्थिक स्थिरीकरण कोष) जैसे वित्तीय बफ़र्स का उपयोग करने का भी इरादा रखती है।

• संसद में जारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार, केंद्र सरकार की बकाया देनदारी FY21 में GDP के 61.5% से घटकर FY26 में 58.2% हो गई है।
• इसके बावजूद, FY26 का आंकड़ा सरकार के 56.1% के लक्ष्य से अधिक था।
• 210 बेसिस पॉइंट्स का अंतर यह बताता है कि केंद्र सरकार FY26 में कर्ज कम करने के अपने लक्ष्य को हासिल नहीं कर पाई।
• FY27 के लिए, केंद्र ने 55.6% का कम लक्ष्य तय किया है।

 

3. AMIT SHAH PRESENTS PRESIDENT’S COLOURS TO PUDUCHERRY POLICE –

• Home Minister of Union Government and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah presented the honor of President’s Colours to the Puducherry Police on August 9th, 2026, due to their courage, dedication, and service. This ceremony was attended by the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry K. Kailashnathan and Honorable Chief Minister N. Rangasamy along with the other notable personalities. The President’s Colours are one of the most prestigious honors for a disciplined force, and Amit Shah expressed his gratitude to the Puducherry government, police force, and citizens of the UT. Furthermore, this award acknowledges the role of the police in maintaining law and order in geographically dispersed regions of Puducherry.

• President’s Colours is an honor that is bestowed on a disciplined force in appreciation of its distinguished service, courage, and dedication.
• For a police force, getting the honor is a reflection of the institution’s contribution to the maintenance of law and order and citizens’ services.
• Puducherry Police now stands amongst the police forces in India who have been honored with this prestigious title.

अमित शाह ने पुडुचेरी पुलिस को ‘प्रेसिडेंट्स कलर्स‘ सम्मान सौंपा –

• केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री और सहकारिता मंत्री अमित शाह ने 9 अगस्त, 2026 को पुडुचेरी पुलिस को उनके साहस, समर्पण और सेवा के लिए ‘प्रेसिडेंट्स कलर्स’ का सम्मान प्रदान किया। इस समारोह में पुडुचेरी के उप-राज्यपाल के. कैलाशनाथन और माननीय मुख्यमंत्री एन. रंगासामी के साथ-साथ अन्य गणमान्य व्यक्ति भी शामिल हुए। ‘प्रेसिडेंट्स कलर्स’ एक अनुशासित बल के लिए सबसे प्रतिष्ठित सम्मानों में से एक है, और अमित शाह ने पुडुचेरी सरकार, पुलिस बल और केंद्र शासित प्रदेश के नागरिकों का आभार व्यक्त किया। इसके अलावा, यह पुरस्कार पुडुचेरी के भौगोलिक रूप से बिखरे हुए क्षेत्रों में कानून-व्यवस्था बनाए रखने में पुलिस की भूमिका को मान्यता देता है।

• पुलिस बल के लिए, यह सम्मान प्राप्त करना कानून-व्यवस्था बनाए रखने और नागरिकों की सेवा में उस संस्था के योगदान को दर्शाता है।
• पुडुचेरी पुलिस अब भारत के उन पुलिस बलों में शामिल हो गई है जिन्हें इस प्रतिष्ठित सम्मान से नवाज़ा गया है।

 

4. UPI CHARGES: NO FEES FOR USERS, GOVT OF INDIA CLARIFIES –

• The Government of India has clarified that the UPI users will not be charged transaction fees, while addressing the concerns regarding the recent amendment-related debate around the Payment and Settlement Systems Act (PSS Act). As per the government, all Person-to-Person (P2P) transactions will remain free, while any future Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) would apply only to a limited category of those merchant transactions whose limit specified above threshold.

Will UPI Users Have to Pay Charges?

• No. The government has categorically stated that consumers who are making UPI payments will not face transaction charges.
• This means that everyday users can continue using UPI to send money, make payments and conduct routine digital transactions without paying any separate UPI transaction fee.
• The government has also specifically reaffirmed that the all P2P transactions will remain free of charge. This is important because person-to-person transfers are among the most common uses of UPI.
• NPCI also describes that UPI as an instant payment system that enables money transfers between participating bank accounts, while also supporting the merchant payments.

UPI शुल्क: उपयोगकर्ताओं के लिए कोई शुल्क नहीं, भारत सरकार ने स्पष्ट किया –

• भारत सरकार ने स्पष्ट किया है कि UPI उपयोगकर्ताओं से कोई ट्रांज़ैक्शन शुल्क नहीं लिया जाएगा। सरकार ने ‘पेमेंट एंड सेटलमेंट सिस्टम्स एक्ट’ (PSS एक्ट) में हालिया संशोधन से जुड़ी बहस और चिंताओं पर यह बात कही। सरकार के अनुसार, सभी ‘पर्सन-टू-पर्सन’ (P2P) ट्रांज़ैक्शन मुफ्त रहेंगे, जबकि भविष्य में ‘मर्चेंट डिस्काउंट रेट’ (MDR) केवल उन मर्चेंट ट्रांज़ैक्शन की सीमित श्रेणी पर लागू होगा जिनकी सीमा एक तय सीमा (थ्रेशोल्ड) से अधिक होगी।

क्या UPI उपयोगकर्ताओं को शुल्क देना होगा?

• नहीं। सरकार ने साफ तौर पर कहा है कि UPI से भुगतान करने वाले उपभोक्ताओं को कोई ट्रांज़ैक्शन शुल्क नहीं देना होगा।
• इसका मतलब है कि आम उपयोगकर्ता बिना किसी अलग UPI ट्रांज़ैक्शन शुल्क के पैसे भेजने, भुगतान करने और रोज़मर्रा के डिजिटल ट्रांज़ैक्शन के लिए UPI का इस्तेमाल जारी रख सकते हैं।
• सरकार ने यह भी खास तौर पर दोहराया है कि सभी P2P ट्रांज़ैक्शन मुफ्त रहेंगे। यह महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि ‘पर्सन-टू-पर्सन’ ट्रांसफर UPI के सबसे आम इस्तेमाल में से एक है।
• NPCI, UPI को एक इंस्टेंट पेमेंट सिस्टम के तौर पर भी बताता है, जो इसमें शामिल बैंक अकाउंट्स के बीच पैसे ट्रांसफर करने की सुविधा देता है और साथ ही मर्चेंट पेमेंट को भी सपोर्ट करता है।

 

5. WORLD LION DAY 2026 –

• The World Lion Day 2026 observed on August 10th and the day highlights the conservation efforts of lions and the threats that are faced by these creatures in their natural habitats. Lions are one of the most famous felines in the world and they have an important role to play as the apex predators in the ecosystem. However, habitat loss, lack of prey, human wildlife conflict, diseases, poaching, and climate change pressures continue to threaten survival of these lions.

World Lion Day 2026: Date and Significance

• World Lion Day is celebrated annually on August 10.
• The event draws attention to the conservation efforts of lions and highlights the importance of these apex predators in the ecosystem.
• This day is significant for India as India hosts the remaining wild Asiatic lions in the world, which are mainly found in the Gir landscape in Gujarat.
• The celebration of Lion conservation day also highlights the efforts made towards Africa.

विश्व शेर दिवस 2026 –

• विश्व शेर दिवस 2026, 10 अगस्त को मनाया जाता है। यह दिन शेरों के संरक्षण के प्रयासों और उनके प्राकृतिक आवासों में उन्हें किन खतरों का सामना करना पड़ता है, इस पर प्रकाश डालता है। शेर दुनिया की सबसे प्रसिद्ध बिल्ली-प्रजाति (felines) में से एक हैं और इकोसिस्टम में शीर्ष शिकारी (apex predators) के रूप में उनकी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका है। हालाँकि, आवास का नुकसान, शिकार की कमी, इंसानों और वन्यजीवों के बीच टकराव, बीमारियाँ, अवैध शिकार और जलवायु परिवर्तन का दबाव इन शेरों के अस्तित्व के लिए खतरा बने हुए हैं।

• विश्व शेर दिवस हर साल 10 अगस्त को मनाया जाता है।
• यह आयोजन शेरों के संरक्षण के प्रयासों की ओर ध्यान आकर्षित करता है और इकोसिस्टम में इन शीर्ष शिकारियों के महत्व को उजागर करता है।
• यह दिन भारत के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि दुनिया में बचे हुए जंगली एशियाई शेर भारत में ही पाए जाते हैं, जो मुख्य रूप से गुजरात के गिर इलाके में रहते हैं।
• शेर संरक्षण दिवस का आयोजन अफ्रीका में किए जा रहे प्रयासों पर भी प्रकाश डालता है।
