1. NARESH PAL GANGWAR APPOINTED AS HIGHER EDUCATION SECRETARY –

• The Central Government appointed Naresh Pal Gangwar, an IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre of the 1994 batch, as the new Secretary of the Department of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education. This appointment, was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on July 23rd, 2026, and also part of a major reshuffle in which 13 secretaries were transferred. Gangwar’s predecessor, Vineet Joshi, was transferred to the Department of Panchayati Raj in the latest administrative development in the higher education sector of India.

• Naresh Pal Gangwar has taken on his duties as Secretary of the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education.
• This appointment is part of a larger administrative reorganizing aimed at improving administration within various ministries.
• As head of the department, Gangwar will be responsible for implementing policies as well as making reforms in institutions and coordination with Indian Higher Education institutions.

नरेश पाल गंगवार उच्च शिक्षा सचिव नियुक्त –

• केंद्र सरकार ने 1994 बैच के राजस्थान कैडर के IAS अधिकारी नरेश पाल गंगवार को शिक्षा मंत्रालय के उच्च शिक्षा विभाग का नया सचिव नियुक्त किया है। इस नियुक्ति को कैबिनेट की नियुक्ति समिति (ACC) ने 23 जुलाई, 2026 को मंज़ूरी दी थी। यह नियुक्ति एक बड़े प्रशासनिक फेरबदल का हिस्सा है, जिसमें 13 सचिवों का तबादला किया गया। भारत के उच्च शिक्षा क्षेत्र में हुए इस हालिया प्रशासनिक बदलाव में, गंगवार से पहले इस पद पर रहे विनीत जोशी का तबादला पंचायती राज विभाग में कर दिया गया।

• नरेश पाल गंगवार ने शिक्षा मंत्रालय के तहत उच्च शिक्षा विभाग के सचिव के तौर पर अपना काम संभाल लिया है।
• यह नियुक्ति बड़े प्रशासनिक पुनर्गठन का हिस्सा है, जिसका मकसद अलग-अलग मंत्रालयों में कामकाज को बेहतर बनाना है।
• विभाग के प्रमुख के तौर पर, गंगवार नीतियों को लागू करने, संस्थानों में सुधार लाने और भारतीय उच्च शिक्षा संस्थानों के साथ तालमेल बिठाने के लिए ज़िम्मेदार होंगे।

 

2. LOVLINA BORGOHAIN CONFIRMS INDIA’S FIRST MEDAL AT COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2026 –

• India got its first medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 before the commencement of the opening ceremony. Kudos to great boxer Lovlina Borgohain who made this possible. The bronze medal winner at the Tokyo Olympics received a direct entry to the last four women’s event in the above-mentioned weight category in the city of Glasgow, Scotland.
• The absence of seven players in the category gave a bye to Lovlina in the competition, making India’s first medal confirmed, showcasing the good start the country would be hoping for in the tournament.

लवलीना बोरगोहेन ने कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स 2026 में भारत का पहला मेडल पक्का किया –

• कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स 2026 की ओपनिंग सेरेमनी शुरू होने से पहले ही भारत को अपना पहला मेडल मिल गया। शानदार बॉक्सर लवलीना बोरगोहेन को बधाई, जिन्होंने इसे मुमकिन बनाया। टोक्यो ओलंपिक्स में ब्रॉन्ज़ मेडल जीतने वाली लवलीना को स्कॉटलैंड के ग्लासगो शहर में तय वेट कैटेगरी में महिलाओं के इवेंट के सेमीफ़ाइनल (लास्ट फोर) में सीधे एंट्री मिली।
• इस कैटेगरी में सात खिलाड़ियों के न होने की वजह से लवलीना को कॉम्पिटिशन में ‘बाय’ (bye) मिला, जिससे भारत का पहला मेडल पक्का हो गया। यह टूर्नामेंट में देश के लिए एक अच्छी शुरुआत है, जिसकी उम्मीद की जा रही थी।

 

3. DRDO SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTS MAIDEN FLIGHT TEST OF KUSHA LONG-RANGE SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSILE –

• DRDO has successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the Kusha Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LR-SAM). This test was conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), it was conducted on 23rd July 2026, from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, from the coast of Odisha. During the flight test, the missile intercepted a high-speed electronic target, demonstrating India’s air defence capabilities.

DRDO Conducts Successful Kusha Missile Test

• The first flight test aimed to assess the ability of Kusha missile to successfully track, engage and destroy sophisticated aerial threats in the real battlefield scenario.
• The test comprised of the following activities,
• The missile tracked and intercepted an electronic target representing a high-speed aerial threat.
• The interception was successful.
• The missile, radar, control systems and guidance mechanisms passed the mission objectives.
• Successful test now guide the operational evaluation phase of Kusha missile programme.

It has the capacity to counter the following threats such as,

• Airplanes
• Missiles
• UAVs
• Large air transport
• Other fast-moving aerial enemies

 

DRDO ने ‘कुशा‘ लॉन्ग-रेंज सरफेस-टू-एयर मिसाइल का पहला फ़्लाइट टेस्ट सफलतापूर्वक किया –

• DRDO ने ‘कुशा’ लॉन्ग-रेंज सरफेस-टू-एयर मिसाइल (LR-SAM) का पहला फ़्लाइट टेस्ट सफलतापूर्वक किया। यह टेस्ट डिफेंस रिसर्च एंड डेवलपमेंट ऑर्गनाइज़ेशन (DRDO) ने 23 जुलाई 2026 को ओडिशा के तट पर स्थित डॉ. एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम आइलैंड से किया। फ़्लाइट टेस्ट के दौरान, मिसाइल ने एक तेज़ रफ़्तार वाले इलेक्ट्रॉनिक टारगेट को इंटरसेप्ट किया, जिससे भारत की एयर डिफेंस क्षमता का पता चला।

DRDO ने कुशा मिसाइल का सफल टेस्ट किया

• पहले फ़्लाइट टेस्ट का मकसद असली युद्ध के हालात में एडवांस्ड हवाई खतरों को ट्रैक करने, उन पर हमला करने और उन्हें नष्ट करने की कुशा मिसाइल की क्षमता को परखना था।
• टेस्ट में ये गतिविधियां शामिल थीं:
• मिसाइल ने तेज़ रफ़्तार वाले हवाई खतरे को दिखाने वाले एक इलेक्ट्रॉनिक टारगेट को ट्रैक और इंटरसेप्ट किया।
• इंटरसेप्शन सफल रहा।
• मिसाइल, रडार, कंट्रोल सिस्टम और गाइडेंस मैकेनिज़्म ने मिशन के लक्ष्यों को पूरा किया।
• सफल टेस्ट अब कुशा मिसाइल प्रोग्राम के ऑपरेशनल इवैल्यूएशन फ़ेज़ (कामकाज के मूल्यांकन के चरण) का आधार बनेगा।

इसमें इन खतरों का मुकाबला करने की क्षमता है, जैसे:

• हवाई जहाज़
• मिसाइलें
• UAVs (ड्रोन)
• बड़े एयर ट्रांसपोर्ट विमान
• तेज़ रफ़्तार वाले अन्य हवाई दुश्मन

 

4. INCOME TAX DAY 2026 –

• Income Tax Day 2026 to be observed on 24th of July 2026, Friday.
• Income Tax Day marks the day when the income tax was introduced in India by Sir James Wilson, who was the first Finance Member of British India, on 24th of July 1860. The observance of this day was initiated by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in 2010.

What is Income Tax Day?

• Income Tax Day is a yearly event that is celebrated to highlight the progress made by the direct tax administration in the country of India and the importance of taxpayers in the growth of the Indian economy.

The occasion provides an opportunity to do the following,

• Recognise the contributions of honest taxpayers.
• Appreciate the efforts of the Income Tax Department.
• Encourage compliance with tax regulations.
• Create awareness regarding taxpayer’s rights and responsibilities.
• Focus on the changes that have been brought in and made the process of direct taxes simpler and more transparent.

इनकम टैक्स डे 2026 –

• इनकम टैक्स डे 2026, शुक्रवार, 24 जुलाई 2026 को मनाया जाएगा।
• इनकम टैक्स डे उस दिन की याद में मनाया जाता है जब भारत में पहली बार इनकम टैक्स लागू किया गया था। इसे ब्रिटिश भारत के पहले वित्त सदस्य (Finance Member) सर जेम्स विल्सन ने 24 जुलाई 1860 को शुरू किया था। इस दिन को मनाने की शुरुआत सेंट्रल बोर्ड ऑफ़ डायरेक्ट टैक्सेस (CBDT) ने 2010 में की थी।
