1. JALLIANWALA BAGH MASSACRE –

• On April 13, 2025, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid homage to the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
• He described the massacre as a dark chapter in India’s history and emphasized that their sacrifice marked a major turning point in India’s freedom struggle.

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

• On April 13, 1919, approximately 20,000 people had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar during the Baisakhi festival.
• People gathered to protest against the Rowlatt Act and arrest of Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew and Dr. Satyapal, two prominent leaders associated with the Punjabi satyagraha movement, were forcibly deported by the British authorities without any formal charges.
• General Dyer, a British commander stationed in Punjab, ordered 50 troops to fire indiscriminately on the civilians, including women and children.
• He ordered open fire without any prior warning; 1,650 bullets were fired, and the shooting only ceased when the ammunition was exhausted.
• Human Toll: The massacre resulted in the death of at least 379 individuals and left over 1,500 people injured.
• This brutal atrocity galvanized the nationalist movement and drew widespread international condemnation.

जलियांवाला बाग हत्याकांड –

• 13 अप्रैल, 2025 को प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने जलियांवाला बाग हत्याकांड के शहीदों को श्रद्धांजलि दी।
• उन्होंने इस हत्याकांड को भारत के इतिहास का एक काला अध्याय बताया और इस बात पर जोर दिया कि उनके बलिदान ने भारत के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में एक महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ ला दिया।

जलियांवाला बाग हत्याकांड

• 13 अप्रैल, 1919 को बैसाखी के त्यौहार के दौरान अमृतसर के जलियांवाला बाग में लगभग 20,000 लोग एकत्र हुए थे।
• पंजाबी सत्याग्रह आंदोलन से जुड़े दो प्रमुख नेताओं डॉ. सैफुद्दीन किचलू और डॉ. सत्यपाल की गिरफ्तारी और रॉलेट एक्ट के विरोध में एकत्र हुए लोगों को ब्रिटिश अधिकारियों ने बिना किसी औपचारिक आरोप के जबरन निर्वासित कर दिया था।
• पंजाब में तैनात ब्रिटिश कमांडर जनरल डायर ने 50 सैनिकों को महिलाओं और बच्चों सहित नागरिकों पर अंधाधुंध गोलीबारी करने का आदेश दिया।
• उसने बिना किसी पूर्व चेतावनी के खुली गोलीबारी का आदेश दिया; 1,650 गोलियाँ चलाई गईं, और गोला-बारूद समाप्त होने पर ही गोलीबारी बंद हुई।
• मानवीय क्षति: इस नरसंहार में कम से कम 379 लोग मारे गए और 1,500 से अधिक लोग घायल हो गए।
• इस क्रूर अत्याचार ने राष्ट्रवादी आंदोलन को गति दी और इसकी व्यापक अंतरराष्ट्रीय निंदा हुई।

 

2. LIGHTNING STRIKES IN BIHAR –

• 80 people were killed in 72 hours due to thunderstorms and lightning across Bihar.
• Recurring Pattern: Bihar has witnessed a recurring pattern of deadly natural disasters, with over 90 deaths in a similar event in June 2020.
• Pre Monsoon Occurrence: In regions like Bihar, thunderstorms are common during the pre-monsoon and early monsoon months (April to June) and can be especially deadly when accompanied by lightning and squall winds.
• National Crime Records Bureau Data: Bihar ranks second in the country in terms of lightning-related fatalities, with the National Crime Records Bureau reporting that lightning accounts for nearly 39% of deaths from natural disasters across India.
• On average, the state records around 250 natural disaster-related deaths each year.

About Lightning

• Lightning is a natural electrical discharge during storms, occurring when charged particles in the atmosphere build up and release energy.
• This release produces a flash of light (lightning) and the associated thunder caused by rapidly expanding air.
• Formation: Lightning forms when positively and negatively charged particles in the atmosphere or within clouds create an imbalance.
• When the difference is large enough, a discharge occurs.

 

बिहार में बिजली गिरने की घटनाएँ –

• बिहार में आंधी और बिजली गिरने से 72 घंटों में 80 लोगों की मौत हो गई।
• आवर्ती पैटर्न: बिहार में घातक प्राकृतिक आपदाओं का आवर्ती पैटर्न देखा गया है, जून 2020 में इसी तरह की घटना में 90 से अधिक मौतें हुईं।
• प्री मानसून घटना: बिहार जैसे क्षेत्रों में, प्री-मानसून और शुरुआती मानसून महीनों (अप्रैल से जून) के दौरान गरज के साथ बारिश होना आम बात है और बिजली और तेज़ हवाओं के साथ होने पर यह विशेष रूप से घातक हो सकता है।
• राष्ट्रीय अपराध रिकॉर्ड ब्यूरो डेटा: बिजली से संबंधित मौतों के मामले में बिहार देश में दूसरे स्थान पर है, राष्ट्रीय अपराध रिकॉर्ड ब्यूरो की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार भारत भर में प्राकृतिक आपदाओं से होने वाली मौतों में से लगभग 39% मौतें बिजली गिरने से होती हैं।
• औसतन, राज्य में हर साल लगभग 250 प्राकृतिक आपदा से संबंधित मौतें दर्ज की जाती हैं।

बिजली के बारे में

• बिजली तूफानों के दौरान एक प्राकृतिक विद्युत निर्वहन है, जो तब होता है जब वायुमंडल में आवेशित कण बनते हैं और ऊर्जा छोड़ते हैं।

3. INDIA FINISHES SECOND OVERALL IN FIRST ISSF WORLD CUP 2025 –

• India showcased a powerful start to the international shooting season, securing the second position overall in the first ISSF World Cup 2025 for rifle, pistol, and shotgun disciplines.
• The tournament, held ahead of the upcoming Paris Olympics, reflected India’s rising shooting talent, blending youth and experience. Despite narrowly missing out on a medal in the final event, the Indian contingent walked away with 8 medals, demonstrating depth, consistency, and promise for the future.

• आगामी पेरिस ओलंपिक से पहले आयोजित इस टूर्नामेंट में भारत की उभरती हुई शूटिंग प्रतिभा को दर्शाया गया, जिसमें युवा और अनुभव का मिश्रण था। फाइनल इवेंट में पदक से चूकने के बावजूद, भारतीय दल ने 8 पदक जीते, जिससे भविष्य के लिए गहराई, स्थिरता और वादा प्रदर्शित हुआ।

4. BOHAG BIHU 2025: A CELEBRATION OF ASSAMESE NEW YEAR AND HARVEST JOY –

• Bohag Bihu, also called Rongali Bihu or Xaat Bihu, is one of the most vibrant and widely celebrated festivals in Assam, marking the beginning of the Assamese New Year and the arrival of spring.
• Observed over seven days, each day carries unique cultural and agricultural significance. It is celebrated with colorful rituals, folk songs, dances, feasts, and prayers—especially among the farming community, who express gratitude for the harvest and pray for prosperity. Bohag Bihu 2025 begins on April 14 and ends on April 20, coinciding with Bohag Sankranti.

बोहाग बिहू 2025: असमिया नव वर्ष और फसल की खुशी का उत्सव –

• बोहाग बिहू, जिसे रोंगाली बिहू या ज़ात बिहू भी कहा जाता है, असम में सबसे जीवंत और व्यापक रूप से मनाए जाने वाले त्योहारों में से एक है, जो असमिया नव वर्ष की शुरुआत और वसंत के आगमन का प्रतीक है।
• सात दिनों तक मनाया जाने वाला यह त्यौहार, प्रत्येक दिन अद्वितीय सांस्कृतिक और कृषि महत्व रखता है। यह रंग-बिरंगे अनुष्ठानों, लोकगीतों, नृत्यों, दावतों और प्रार्थनाओं के साथ मनाया जाता है – खास तौर पर कृषक समुदाय के बीच, जो फसल के लिए आभार व्यक्त करते हैं और समृद्धि के लिए प्रार्थना करते हैं। बोहाग बिहू 2025 14 अप्रैल को शुरू होकर 20 अप्रैल को समाप्त होगा, जो बोहाग संक्रांति के साथ मेल खाता है।

 

5. MADHYA PRADESH DECLARES NEW WILDLIFE SANCTUARY NAMED AFTER DR. B.R. AMBEDKAR –

• The Madhya Pradesh government has declared a new wildlife sanctuary in Sagar district, covering an area of 258.64 square kilometers. The sanctuary, named Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Abhyaran, was officially announced ahead of the 134th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which will be observed on April 14.
• This new sanctuary aims to enhance wildlife conservation efforts, promote eco-tourism, and generate employment opportunities for local communities.

मध्य प्रदेश ने डॉ. बी.आर. अंबेडकर के नाम पर नया वन्यजीव अभयारण्य घोषित किया –

• मध्य प्रदेश सरकार ने सागर जिले में 64 वर्ग किलोमीटर क्षेत्र में फैले एक नए वन्यजीव अभयारण्य की घोषणा की है। डॉ. भीमराव अंबेडकर अभ्यारण नामक अभयारण्य की आधिकारिक घोषणा डॉ. बी.आर. अंबेडकर की 134वीं जयंती से पहले की गई, जिसे 14 अप्रैल को मनाया जाएगा।
• इस नए अभयारण्य का उद्देश्य वन्यजीव संरक्षण प्रयासों को बढ़ाना, इको-टूरिज्म को बढ़ावा देना और स्थानीय समुदायों के लिए रोजगार के अवसर पैदा करना है।
