1. WORLD DAY TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT OBSERVED IN INDIA –

• The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought was observed on 17 June 2026 across 813 project areas under the Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana 2.0 (WDC-PMKSY 2.0) in India. The programme is implemented by the Watershed Management Division of the Department of Land Resources under the Ministry of Rural Development.

WDC-PMKSY 2.0

• WDC-PMKSY 2.0 is a watershed development programme for the period 2021-2026. It aims to cover 49.50 lakh hectares of degraded land with a financial outlay of Rs. 8,134 crore. The programme includes soil conservation, water conservation, and land restoration activities in watershed areas.

Activities Held on 17 June 2026

• Nationwide observance on 17 June 2026 included Bhoomi Poojan for 1,444 new watershed development works and Lokarpan of 8,341 completed watershed assets. The campaign Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam included the planting of 51,299 saplings. A public pledge was administered with the theme “For a Developed India, Let Us Build a Drought-Free India”.

भारत में मरुस्थलीकरण और सूखे से निपटने के लिए विश्व दिवस मनाया गया –

• भारत में 17 जून 2026 को ‘प्रधानमंत्री कृषि सिंचाई योजना 2.0’ (WDC-PMKSY 2.0) के ‘वॉटरशेड डेवलपमेंट कंपोनेंट’ के तहत 813 प्रोजेक्ट क्षेत्रों में ‘मरुस्थलीकरण और सूखे से निपटने के लिए विश्व दिवस’ मनाया गया। यह कार्यक्रम ग्रामीण विकास मंत्रालय के तहत भूमि संसाधन विभाग के वॉटरशेड प्रबंधन प्रभाग द्वारा लागू किया जाता है।

WDC-PMKSY 2.0

• WDC-PMKSY 2.0, 2021-2026 की अवधि के लिए एक वॉटरशेड विकास कार्यक्रम है। इसका लक्ष्य 8,134 करोड़ रुपये के वित्तीय परिव्यय के साथ 49.50 लाख हेक्टेयर खराब हो चुकी भूमि को कवर करना है। इस कार्यक्रम में वॉटरशेड क्षेत्रों में मिट्टी संरक्षण, जल संरक्षण और भूमि बहाली की गतिविधियाँ शामिल हैं।

17 जून 2026 को आयोजित गतिविधियाँ

• 17 जून 2026 को देश भर में आयोजित कार्यक्रमों में 1,444 नए वॉटरशेड विकास कार्यों के लिए भूमि पूजन और 8,341 पूरे हो चुके वॉटरशेड परिसंपत्तियों का लोकार्पण शामिल था। ‘एक पेड़ माँ के नाम’ अभियान के तहत 51,299 पौधे लगाए गए। “विकसित भारत के लिए, आइए सूखा-मुक्त भारत बनाएँ” थीम के साथ एक सार्वजनिक शपथ भी दिलाई गई।

 

2. MADHYA PRADESH TO INTRODUCE UCC BILL IN ASSEMBLY –

• On 17 June 2026, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that a Uniform Civil Code Bill would be introduced in the Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The session is scheduled from 20 July to 24 July 2026 and is expected to include the first supplementary budget for 2026-27.

Uniform Civil Code in India

• A Uniform Civil Code refers to a common set of civil laws for matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, and succession. Article 44 of the Constitution of India places the Uniform Civil Code among the Directive Principles of State Policy.

State-Level Drafting Process

• A six-member high-level committee was formed by the Madhya Pradesh Government in April 2026 to draft the Bill. The committee is headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Justice Ranjana Prasad Desai and has been asked to submit a detailed report within 60 days. The committee has visited different parts of Madhya Pradesh to collect suggestions from people of different religions. It is also studying the models adopted by Uttarakhand and Gujarat, which are ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

मध्य प्रदेश विधानसभा में UCC बिल पेश करेगा –

• 17 जून 2026 को मध्य प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री मोहन यादव ने घोषणा की कि मध्य प्रदेश विधानसभा के मानसून सत्र में ‘समान नागरिक संहिता’ (UCC) बिल पेश किया जाएगा। यह सत्र 20 जुलाई से 24 जुलाई 2026 तक निर्धारित है और इसमें 2026-27 के लिए पहला पूरक बजट भी शामिल होने की उम्मीद है।

भारत में समान नागरिक संहिता (Uniform Civil Code)

• समान नागरिक संहिता का अर्थ है विवाह, तलाक, विरासत, गोद लेने और उत्तराधिकार जैसे मामलों के लिए नागरिक कानूनों का एक समान सेट। भारत के संविधान का अनुच्छेद 44 समान नागरिक संहिता को राज्य के नीति निदेशक तत्वों में शामिल करता है। राज्य-स्तर पर ड्राफ़्ट तैयार करने की प्रक्रिया
• मध्य प्रदेश सरकार ने अप्रैल 2026 में बिल का ड्राफ़्ट तैयार करने के लिए छह सदस्यों वाली एक हाई-लेवल कमिटी बनाई। इस कमिटी की अध्यक्षता सुप्रीम कोर्ट की रिटायर्ड जज जस्टिस रंजना प्रसाद देसाई कर रही हैं और उन्हें 60 दिनों के अंदर एक डिटेल्ड रिपोर्ट सौंपने के लिए कहा गया है। कमिटी ने अलग-अलग धर्मों के लोगों से सुझाव लेने के लिए मध्य प्रदेश के अलग-अलग हिस्सों का दौरा किया है। यह उत्तराखंड और गुजरात द्वारा अपनाए गए मॉडल्स का भी अध्ययन कर रही है, जहाँ भारतीय जनता पार्टी की सरकार है।

 

3. INDIA’S DEFENCE PRODUCTION REACHES RECORD HIGH –

• India’s annual defence production reached ₹1.78 lakh crore in Financial Year 2025-26. The figure was ₹84,643 crore in FY 2020-21 and ₹43,746 crore in FY 2013-14.

Defence Production in India

• Defence production includes the manufacture of weapons, platforms, systems, ammunition, and related equipment for the armed forces. India’s defence industrial base includes Defence Public Sector Undertakings, ordnance factories, and private sector manufacturers.

Public and Private Sector Share

• Defence Public Sector Undertakings and other public sector units contributed about 76% of total defence production in FY 2025-26. The private sector’s share rose to nearly ₹42,000 crore in FY 2025-26, which was 24% of total production.

भारत का रक्षा उत्पादन रिकॉर्ड स्तर पर पहुँचा –

• वित्त वर्ष 2025-26 में भारत का सालाना रक्षा उत्पादन ₹1.78 लाख करोड़ तक पहुँच गया। यह आंकड़ा वित्त वर्ष 2020-21 में ₹84,643 करोड़ और वित्त वर्ष 2013-14 में ₹43,746 करोड़ था।

भारत में रक्षा उत्पादन

• रक्षा उत्पादन में सशस्त्र बलों के लिए हथियार, प्लेटफॉर्म, सिस्टम, गोला-बारूद और संबंधित उपकरणों का निर्माण शामिल है। भारत के रक्षा औद्योगिक आधार में रक्षा सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के उपक्रम, आयुध कारखाने और निजी क्षेत्र के निर्माता शामिल हैं।

सार्वजनिक और निजी क्षेत्र की हिस्सेदारी

• वित्त वर्ष 2025-26 में कुल रक्षा उत्पादन में रक्षा सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के उपक्रमों और अन्य सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र की इकाइयों का योगदान लगभग 76% था। निजी क्षेत्र की हिस्सेदारी वित्त वर्ष 2025-26 में बढ़कर लगभग ₹42,000 करोड़ हो गई, जो कुल उत्पादन का 24% थी।

 

4. DOCTOR’S PRESCRIPTION MADE MANDATORY FOR COUGH SYRUPS

• The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare made a doctor’s prescription mandatory for the purchase of syrup medicines, including cough syrups, on 16 June 2026. The change took effect immediately after the publication of the Drugs (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2026, in the Official Gazette.

Drugs Rules and Schedule K

• The Drugs Rules, 1945, govern the manufacture, sale, and distribution of medicines in India. Schedule K of the Drugs Rules, 1945, lists categories of medicines exempt from certain regulatory provisions. The amendment removes the word “syrups” from Schedule K, which places syrup-based formulations under prescription control.

Prescription Requirement for Syrup Formulations

• Commonly sold cough syrups such as Benadryl, Glycodin, Zedex, Tusq DX, Grilinctus, Cofsils, Himalaya Koflet, and Dabur Honitus now require a valid prescription. Lozenges, pills, and tablets used for cough treatment continue to remain exempt under Schedule K and can be purchased over the counter.

 

खांसी की सिरप के लिए डॉक्टर की पर्ची अनिवार्य –

• केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण मंत्रालय ने 16 जून 2026 को खांसी की सिरप सहित सिरप वाली दवाओं की खरीद के लिए डॉक्टर की पर्ची अनिवार्य कर दी। यह बदलाव आधिकारिक राजपत्र (Official Gazette) में ड्रग्स (पांचवां संशोधन) नियम, 2026 के प्रकाशन के तुरंत बाद लागू हुआ।

ड्रग्स नियम और शेड्यूल K

• ड्रग्स नियम, 1945 भारत में दवाओं के निर्माण, बिक्री और वितरण को नियंत्रित करते हैं। ड्रग्स नियम, 1945 के शेड्यूल K में उन दवाओं की श्रेणियों को सूचीबद्ध किया गया है जो कुछ नियामक प्रावधानों से छूट प्राप्त हैं। इस संशोधन ने शेड्यूल K से “सिरप” शब्द को हटा दिया है, जिससे सिरप-आधारित दवाएं डॉक्टर की पर्ची के नियंत्रण में आ गई हैं।

सिरप वाली दवाओं के लिए पर्ची की आवश्यकता

• आमतौर पर बिकने वाली खांसी की सिरप जैसे बेनाड्रिल (Benadryl), ग्लाइकोडिन (Glycodin), ज़ेडेक्स (Zedex), टस्क DX (Tusq DX), ग्रिलिंक्टस (Grilinctus), कॉफसिल्स (Cofsils), हिमालय कोफ्लेट (Himalaya Koflet) और डाबर होनिटस (Dabur Honitus) के लिए अब वैध पर्ची की आवश्यकता है। खांसी के इलाज के लिए इस्तेमाल होने वाली लोज़ेंज (lozenges), गोलियां और टैबलेट शेड्यूल K के तहत छूट प्राप्त बनी रहेंगी और उन्हें बिना पर्ची के (over the counter) खरीदा जा सकेगा।

 

5. INDIAN NAVY’S SEA KING 42B SQUADRON RETIRES –

• The Indian Naval Air Squadron 330, known as “The Harpoons”, was number plated on 14 June 2026 after 55 years of service. The squadron was commissioned on 17 April 1971 at INS Garuda, Kochi, under Commander M. P. Wadhawan.

Indian Naval Air Squadron 330

• INAS 330 is a helicopter squadron of the Indian Navy. It operated the Sea King Mk 42B, a naval variant of the Westland Sea King helicopter used for maritime operations.

Sea King Mk 42B Roles

• The Sea King Mk 42B was used for anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship missions, and search-and-rescue operations. The helicopter also served in shipborne roles from Indian Navy platforms and shore bases.

Retirement and Replacement Fleet

• The Sea King Bravo fleet retired on 14 June 2026 after 36 years of service, with a final ceremonial flight from INS Shikra, Mumbai. About eight Sea King Bravo helicopters remained in service at the time of retirement. The remaining Sea King Mk 42B airframes will be converted into utility “Barlies” or used as test beds for sensor and weapon trials. The Indian Navy has ordered 24 MH-60R Seahawk helicopters as an initial replacement, while the Indian Multi Role Helicopter and Deck Based MRH remain under development.

भारतीय नौसेना का सी किंग 42B स्क्वाड्रन रिटायर हुआ –

• भारतीय नौसेना एयर स्क्वाड्रन 330, जिसे “द हारपून” (The Harpoons) के नाम से जाना जाता है, 55 साल की सेवा के बाद 14 जून 2026 को रिटायर (नंबर प्लेट हटाना) हो गया। इस स्क्वाड्रन को 17 अप्रैल 1971 को कोच्चि के INS गरुड़ में कमांडर एम. पी. वधावन की कमान में कमीशन किया गया था।

भारतीय नौसेना एयर स्क्वाड्रन 330

• INAS 330 भारतीय नौसेना का एक हेलीकॉप्टर स्क्वाड्रन है। यह समुद्री अभियानों के लिए इस्तेमाल होने वाले वेस्टलैंड सी किंग हेलीकॉप्टर के नौसैनिक वर्ज़न, सी किंग Mk 42B को ऑपरेट करता था।

सी किंग Mk 42B की भूमिकाएँ

• सी किंग Mk 42B का इस्तेमाल एंटी-सबमरीन वॉरफेयर (पनडुब्बी-रोधी युद्ध), एंटी-शिप मिशन और खोज-और-बचाव अभियानों के लिए किया जाता था। इस हेलीकॉप्टर ने भारतीय नौसेना के प्लेटफॉर्म और तट-आधारित बेस से जहाज-आधारित भूमिकाओं में भी काम किया।

रिटायरमेंट और रिप्लेसमेंट फ्लीट

• सी किंग ब्रावो फ्लीट 36 साल की सेवा के बाद 14 जून 2026 को रिटायर हो गई, जिसकी आखिरी औपचारिक उड़ान मुंबई के INS शिकरा से हुई। रिटायरमेंट के समय लगभग आठ सी किंग ब्रावो हेलीकॉप्टर सेवा में थे। बाकी बचे सी किंग Mk 42B एयरफ्रेम को यूटिलिटी “बार्लीज” (barlies) में बदला जाएगा या सेंसर और हथियारों के परीक्षण के लिए टेस्ट बेड के तौर पर इस्तेमाल किया जाएगा। भारतीय नौसेना ने शुरुआती रिप्लेसमेंट के तौर पर 24 MH-60R सीहॉक हेलीकॉप्टर का ऑर्डर दिया है, जबकि इंडियन मल्टी रोल हेलीकॉप्टर और डेक-बेस्ड MRH अभी भी डेवलपमेंट के दौर में हैं।
