1. 38TH NATIONAL GAMES –

• The Union Home Minister addressed the closing ceremony of the 38th National Games in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, highlighting the development in India’s sports infrastructure. The 39th National Games will be held in Meghalaya.
• About 38th National Games: It was held from 28th January to 14th February 2025 in Uttarakhand.
• Mascot: The mascot of the games was Mouli, inspired by Uttarakhand’s state bird, the Monal.
• Top Performers: Services Sports Control Board (1st), Maharashtra (2nd), and Haryana (3rd).
• The National Games of India is an Olympic-style multi-sport event where athletes from states and Union Territories compete for medals.
• India’s sports budget grew from Rs 800 crore in 2014 to Rs 3,800 crore by 2025-26.
• India aims to host the Olympic Games in 2036, with athletes already preparing for success through the TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme).

38वें राष्ट्रीय खेल –

• केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री ने उत्तराखंड के हल्द्वानी में 38वें राष्ट्रीय खेलों के समापन समारोह को संबोधित किया, जिसमें भारत के खेल बुनियादी ढांचे में विकास पर प्रकाश डाला गया। 39वें राष्ट्रीय खेल मेघालय में आयोजित किए जाएंगे।
• 38वें राष्ट्रीय खेलों के बारे में: यह 28 जनवरी से 14 फरवरी 2025 तक उत्तराखंड में आयोजित किया गया था।
• शुभंकर: खेलों का शुभंकर मौली था, जो उत्तराखंड के राज्य पक्षी मोनाल से प्रेरित था।
• शीर्ष प्रदर्शनकर्ता: सेवा खेल नियंत्रण बोर्ड (प्रथम), महाराष्ट्र (द्वितीय), और हरियाणा (तृतीय)।
• भारत का राष्ट्रीय खेल एक ओलंपिक शैली का बहु-खेल आयोजन है जहाँ राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों के एथलीट पदक के लिए प्रतिस्पर्धा करते हैं।
• भारत का खेल बजट 2014 में 800 करोड़ रुपये से बढ़कर 2025-26 तक 3,800 करोड़ रुपये हो गया।
• भारत का लक्ष्य 2036 में ओलंपिक खेलों की मेज़बानी करना है, जिसमें एथलीट पहले से ही TOPS (टारगेट ओलंपिक पोडियम स्कीम) के ज़रिए सफलता की तैयारी कर रहे हैं।

 

2. EARTHQUAKE IN DELHI-NCR –

• According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS) , a shallow earthquake of 4.0 magnitude struck Delhi-NCR, with a focal depth of 5 km.
• Another 4.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Bihar at 8:02 AM, with a depth of 10 km.
• An earthquake is the shaking of the Earth’s crust caused by a sudden release of energy. This release of energy occurs along a fault, which is a break in the Earth’s crustal rocks.
• Earthquakes are caused by the movement of tectonic plates.
• When two tectonic plates slide past each other, the jagged edges can get caught, and when they release, the energy is released as vibrations.
• Earthquakes can also be caused by the injection or withdrawal of magma, or explosions of chemical or nuclear devices.

दिल्ली-एनसीआर में भूकंप –

• नेशनल सेंटर फ़ॉर सीस्मोलॉजी (NCS) के अनुसार, दिल्ली-एनसीआर में 0 तीव्रता का एक उथला भूकंप आया, जिसकी गहराई 5 किलोमीटर थी।
• बिहार में सुबह 8:02 बजे 10 किलोमीटर की गहराई पर 0 तीव्रता का एक और भूकंप दर्ज किया गया।
• भूकंप, ऊर्जा के अचानक निकलने के कारण पृथ्वी की पपड़ी का हिलना है। ऊर्जा का यह रिसाव एक दोष के साथ होता है, जो पृथ्वी की पपड़ी की चट्टानों में एक दरार है।
• भूकंप टेक्टोनिक प्लेटों की गति के कारण होता है।
• जब दो टेक्टोनिक प्लेट एक-दूसरे के पास से फिसलती हैं, तो दांतेदार किनारे फंस सकते हैं, और जब वे मुक्त होते हैं, तो ऊर्जा कंपन के रूप में निकलती है।
• भूकंप मैग्मा के इंजेक्शन या निकासी, या रासायनिक या परमाणु उपकरणों के विस्फोट के कारण भी हो सकते हैं।

 

3. GYANESH KUMAR APPOINTED AS INDIA’S NEW CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER –

• On February 17, 2025, the Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar, was officially appointed as the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) by the Law Ministry.
• This appointment marks a significant milestone, as he is the first CEC to be appointed under the new law governing the selection of Election Commission (EC) members.
• His tenure will last until January 26, 2029, positioning him at the helm of the Election Commission of India (ECI) during crucial electoral events, including the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

ज्ञानेश कुमार को भारत के नए मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया –

• 17 फरवरी, 2025 को, भारत के चुनाव आयुक्त, ज्ञानेश कुमार को आधिकारिक तौर पर कानून मंत्रालय द्वारा अगले मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त (सीईसी) के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया।
• यह नियुक्ति एक महत्वपूर्ण मील का पत्थर है, क्योंकि वह चुनाव आयोग (ईसी) के सदस्यों के चयन को नियंत्रित करने वाले नए कानून के तहत नियुक्त होने वाले पहले सीईसी हैं।
• उनका कार्यकाल 26 जनवरी, 2029 तक चलेगा, जो उन्हें आगामी लोकसभा चुनावों सहित महत्वपूर्ण चुनावी घटनाओं के दौरान भारत के चुनाव आयोग (ईसीआई) के शीर्ष पर रखेगा।

 

4. INDIA’S SMARTPHONE EXPORTS REACH ₹1.5 TRILLION, BOOSTED BY PLI SCHEME –

• India’s smartphone exports have reached an all-time high of Rs 1.55 trillion in the April 2024 to January 2025 period, reflecting a 56% surge from Rs 991.2 billion in the same period last year.
• This growth has been primarily fueled by the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which has strengthened India’s smartphone manufacturing ecosystem and boosted exports. The rise in shipments is being driven by global giants like Apple and Samsung, with Apple leading the way by contributing nearly 70% of the total exports.
• The government’s push for local production has played a crucial role in transforming India into a major hub for smartphone manufacturing and exports.

भारत का स्मार्टफोन निर्यात 1.5 ट्रिलियन रुपये तक पहुंचा, पीएलआई योजना से बढ़ा –

• अप्रैल 2024 से जनवरी 2025 की अवधि में भारत का स्मार्टफोन निर्यात 55 ट्रिलियन रुपये के सर्वकालिक उच्च स्तर पर पहुंच गया है, जो पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि में 991.2 बिलियन रुपये से 56% की वृद्धि को दर्शाता है।
• यह वृद्धि मुख्य रूप से उत्पादन-लिंक्ड प्रोत्साहन (पीएलआई) योजना द्वारा प्रेरित है, जिसने भारत के स्मार्टफोन विनिर्माण पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र को मजबूत किया है और निर्यात को बढ़ावा दिया है। शिपमेंट में वृद्धि Apple और Samsung जैसी वैश्विक दिग्गजों द्वारा संचालित की जा रही है, जिसमें Apple कुल निर्यात में लगभग 70% का योगदान देकर अग्रणी है।
• स्थानीय उत्पादन के लिए सरकार के प्रयास ने भारत को स्मार्टफोन विनिर्माण और निर्यात के लिए एक प्रमुख केंद्र में बदलने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई है।

 

5. URBAN UNEMPLOYMENT RATE STEADY AT 6.4% IN Q3 FY25 –

• The urban unemployment rate in India stood unchanged at 6.4% in the October-December quarter of FY25, according to the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on February 18, 2025. This follows a slight decline from 6.6% in Q1 FY25 to 6.4% in Q2 FY25, indicating a stable employment scenario in urban areas.
• Male Unemployment: The unemployment rate among men in urban areas increased slightly to 5.8% in Q3 FY25, up from 5.7% in the previous quarter.
• Female Unemployment: The unemployment rate among women improved, dropping to 8.1% in Q3 FY25 from 8.4% in Q2 FY25, suggesting improved job opportunities for women in urban areas.

शहरी बेरोजगारी दर वित्त वर्ष 2025 की तीसरी तिमाही में 6.4% पर स्थिर –

• सांख्यिकी और कार्यक्रम कार्यान्वयन मंत्रालय (MoSPI) द्वारा 18 फरवरी, 2025 को जारी नवीनतम आवधिक श्रम बल सर्वेक्षण (PLFS) के अनुसार, भारत में शहरी बेरोजगारी दर वित्त वर्ष 2025 की अक्टूबर-दिसंबर तिमाही में 4% पर अपरिवर्तित रही। यह वित्त वर्ष 2025 की पहली तिमाही में 6.6% से घटकर वित्त वर्ष 2025 की दूसरी तिमाही में 6.4% हो गई, जो शहरी क्षेत्रों में स्थिर रोजगार परिदृश्य का संकेत देती है।
• पुरुष बेरोजगारी: शहरी क्षेत्रों में पुरुषों के बीच बेरोजगारी दर वित्त वर्ष 2025 की तीसरी तिमाही में थोड़ी बढ़कर 8% हो गई, जो पिछली तिमाही में 5.7% थी।
• महिला बेरोजगारी: महिलाओं के बीच बेरोजगारी दर में सुधार हुआ, जो वित्त वर्ष 2025 की दूसरी तिमाही के 4% से घटकर वित्त वर्ष 2025 की तीसरी तिमाही में 8.1% हो गई, जो शहरी क्षेत्रों में महिलाओं के लिए बेहतर रोजगार अवसरों का संकेत देती है।
