1. AFTER A DECADE AT MARS, NASA LOSES CONTACT WITH MAVEN ORBITER –

• NASA has lost contact with the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) spacecraft, which has been orbiting the Red Planet for over a decade. The space agency confirmed that the spacecraft abruptly stopped communicating with Earth after passing behind Mars, raising concerns about the status of one of its most important Martian science missions.

Sudden Communication Blackout

• According to NASA, MAVEN was functioning normally before it moved behind Mars relative to Earth, a routine phase during its orbit when communication is temporarily unavailable. However, when the spacecraft re-emerged, ground stations received no signals. Engineers have since been attempting to re-establish contact, but the spacecraft has remained silent. NASA has initiated detailed engineering investigations to determine whether the issue is linked to onboard systems, power supply, or external factors.

Mission Launched to Study Martian Atmosphere

• Launched in 2013, MAVEN entered Mars orbit in 2014 with the primary objective of studying the planet’s upper atmosphere and its interaction with the solar wind. Data collected by the mission played a crucial role in helping scientists understand how Mars lost much of its atmosphere over billions of years. The findings supported the conclusion that intense solar activity stripped away atmospheric gases, transforming Mars from a once warmer, wetter planet into the cold and arid world seen today.

 

मंगल ग्रह पर एक दशक बाद, NASA का MAVEN ऑर्बिटर से संपर्क टूटा –

• NASA का मार्स एटमॉस्फियर एंड वोलेटाइल इवोल्यूशन (MAVEN) स्पेसक्राफ्ट से संपर्क टूट गया है, जो एक दशक से ज़्यादा समय से लाल ग्रह की परिक्रमा कर रहा था। स्पेस एजेंसी ने पुष्टि की कि मंगल ग्रह के पीछे से गुज़रने के बाद स्पेसक्राफ्ट ने अचानक पृथ्वी से संपर्क करना बंद कर दिया, जिससे उसके सबसे महत्वपूर्ण मंगल विज्ञान मिशनों में से एक की स्थिति के बारे में चिंताएँ बढ़ गई हैं।

अचानक कम्युनिकेशन ब्लैकआउट

• NASA के अनुसार, MAVEN सामान्य रूप से काम कर रहा था, इससे पहले कि वह पृथ्वी के सापेक्ष मंगल ग्रह के पीछे गया, जो उसकी कक्षा का एक नियमित चरण है जब कम्युनिकेशन अस्थायी रूप से उपलब्ध नहीं होता है। हालाँकि, जब स्पेसक्राफ्ट फिर से सामने आया, तो ग्राउंड स्टेशनों को कोई सिग्नल नहीं मिला। तब से इंजीनियर संपर्क फिर से स्थापित करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं, लेकिन स्पेसक्राफ्ट शांत रहा है। NASA ने यह निर्धारित करने के लिए विस्तृत इंजीनियरिंग जाँच शुरू की है कि क्या यह समस्या ऑनबोर्ड सिस्टम, बिजली आपूर्ति, या बाहरी कारकों से जुड़ी है।

मंगल ग्रह के वायुमंडल का अध्ययन करने के लिए लॉन्च किया गया मिशन

• 2013 में लॉन्च किया गया MAVEN 2014 में मंगल ग्रह की कक्षा में प्रवेश किया, जिसका मुख्य उद्देश्य ग्रह के ऊपरी वायुमंडल और सौर हवा के साथ इसकी बातचीत का अध्ययन करना था। मिशन द्वारा एकत्र किए गए डेटा ने वैज्ञानिकों को यह समझने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई कि अरबों वर्षों में मंगल ग्रह ने अपने अधिकांश वायुमंडल को कैसे खो दिया। निष्कर्षों ने इस निष्कर्ष का समर्थन किया कि तीव्र सौर गतिविधि ने वायुमंडलीय गैसों को छीन लिया, जिससे मंगल ग्रह एक समय के गर्म, आर्द्र ग्रह से आज देखे जाने वाले ठंडे और शुष्क दुनिया में बदल गया।

 

2. UNSEASONAL WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EMERGING ACROSS PARTS OF SOUTH INDIA AS CYCLONE BAKUNG STRENGTHENS OVER THE INDIAN OCEAN –

• Unseasonal weather conditions are emerging across parts of South India as Cyclone Bakung strengthens over the Indian Ocean. Although the system is not expected to make landfall over India, changing wind patterns and atmospheric circulation linked to the cyclone are influencing temperatures, bringing an unusual winter-like chill to several southern states.

Current Status of Cyclone Bakung

• Cyclone Bakung originated over the southwest Indian Ocean and is moving away from the Indonesian region. Meteorological agencies report that the system has intensified steadily, with wind speeds exceeding 60 kmph and further strengthening likely. Increased cloud cover near the equatorial belt and shifting pressure systems have altered regional weather dynamics, even as the cyclone remains over open waters and is expected to weaken gradually.

• दक्षिण भारत के कुछ हिस्सों में बेमौसम मौसम की स्थिति बन रही है क्योंकि हिंद महासागर में चक्रवात बाकुंग मज़बूत हो रहा है। हालाँकि सिस्टम के भारत में ज़मीन पर आने की उम्मीद नहीं है, लेकिन चक्रवात से जुड़े हवा के पैटर्न और वायुमंडलीय परिसंचरण में बदलाव तापमान को प्रभावित कर रहे हैं, जिससे कई दक्षिणी राज्यों में असामान्य सर्दियों जैसी ठंडक आ रही है।

चक्रवात बाकुंग की वर्तमान स्थिति

• चक्रवात बाकुंग दक्षिण-पश्चिम हिंद महासागर में उत्पन्न हुआ और इंडोनेशियाई क्षेत्र से दूर जा रहा है। मौसम विज्ञान एजेंसियों की रिपोर्ट है कि सिस्टम लगातार तेज़ हुआ है, हवा की गति 60 किमी प्रति घंटे से अधिक हो गई है और इसके और मज़बूत होने की संभावना है। भूमध्यरेखीय बेल्ट के पास बादलों का बढ़ना और दबाव प्रणालियों में बदलाव ने क्षेत्रीय मौसम की गतिशीलता को बदल दिया है, भले ही चक्रवात खुले पानी में बना हुआ है और धीरे-धीरे कमज़ोर होने की उम्मीद है।

 

3. INDIA EMERGES AS ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST OVERWORKED COUNTRIES, ILO DATA SHOWS –

• India has emerged as one of the world’s most overworked nations, according to recent data released by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The findings show that Indian workers clock some of the longest average working hours globally, intensifying concerns over burnout, declining well-being, and blurred boundaries between professional and personal life. The data has added urgency to policy discussions on regulating work hours in a rapidly evolving economy.

What the ILO Data Reveals

• The ILO’s 2024 assessment places India among countries with the highest average weekly working hours. Indian employees work an average of 45.7 hours per week, placing the country alongside high-intensity labour economies such as Bangladesh, Mongolia, and Iran. The figure is significantly higher than averages in most developed economies, where working hours have steadily declined due to stronger labour protections and productivity-led growth.

ILO डेटा से पता चलता है कि भारत दुनिया के सबसे ज़्यादा काम करने वाले देशों में से एक बन गया है –

• इंटरनेशनल लेबर ऑर्गनाइजेशन (ILO) द्वारा जारी हालिया डेटा के अनुसार, भारत दुनिया के सबसे ज़्यादा काम करने वाले देशों में से एक बन गया है। निष्कर्षों से पता चलता है कि भारतीय कर्मचारी विश्व स्तर पर सबसे लंबे औसत काम के घंटे काम करते हैं, जिससे बर्नआउट, घटते स्वास्थ्य और पेशेवर और व्यक्तिगत जीवन के बीच धुंधली सीमाओं को लेकर चिंताएँ बढ़ गई हैं। इस डेटा ने तेज़ी से बदलती अर्थव्यवस्था में काम के घंटों को विनियमित करने पर नीतिगत चर्चाओं को और ज़रूरी बना दिया है।

ILO डेटा क्या बताता है

• ILO के 2024 के आकलन में भारत को सबसे ज़्यादा औसत साप्ताहिक काम के घंटे वाले देशों में रखा गया है। भारतीय कर्मचारी प्रति सप्ताह औसतन 7 घंटे काम करते हैं, जिससे यह देश बांग्लादेश, मंगोलिया और ईरान जैसी ज़्यादा काम वाली अर्थव्यवस्थाओं के साथ खड़ा हो गया है। यह आंकड़ा ज़्यादातर विकसित अर्थव्यवस्थाओं के औसत से काफी ज़्यादा है, जहाँ मज़बूत श्रम सुरक्षा और उत्पादकता-आधारित विकास के कारण काम के घंटे लगातार कम हुए हैं।

 

4. ANDHRA PRADESH WINS NATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION AWARD –

• Andhra Pradesh has clinched the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award for the fourth consecutive year, reaffirming its position as a national leader in energy efficiency. The achievement reflects the State’s sustained progress in implementing comprehensive energy conservation measures across multiple sectors, backed by strong institutional coordination and policy-driven reforms.

Fourth Consecutive National Honour

• Chief Secretary K Vijayanand stated that the latest recognition places Andhra Pradesh among the most consistent and forward-looking States in promoting energy efficiency. At the National Energy Conservation Award–2025, the State secured the First Prize in the Group II category, demonstrating measurable outcomes across buildings, industry, municipal services, agriculture, DISCOMs and transport sectors.

आंध्र प्रदेश ने राष्ट्रीय ऊर्जा संरक्षण पुरस्कार जीता –

• आंध्र प्रदेश ने लगातार चौथे वर्ष प्रतिष्ठित राष्ट्रीय ऊर्जा संरक्षण पुरस्कार जीता है, जो ऊर्जा दक्षता में एक राष्ट्रीय नेता के रूप में अपनी स्थिति की पुष्टि करता है। यह उपलब्धि मज़बूत संस्थागत समन्वय और नीति-संचालित सुधारों द्वारा समर्थित, कई क्षेत्रों में व्यापक ऊर्जा संरक्षण उपायों को लागू करने में राज्य की निरंतर प्रगति को दर्शाती है।

लगातार चौथा राष्ट्रीय सम्मान

• मुख्य सचिव के विजयानंद ने कहा कि नवीनतम मान्यता आंध्र प्रदेश को ऊर्जा दक्षता को बढ़ावा देने में सबसे सुसंगत और दूरदर्शी राज्यों में से एक बनाती है। राष्ट्रीय ऊर्जा संरक्षण पुरस्कार-2025 में, राज्य ने ग्रुप II श्रेणी में पहला पुरस्कार हासिल किया, जो इमारतों, उद्योग, नगरपालिका सेवाओं, कृषि, DISCOMs और परिवहन क्षेत्रों में मापने योग्य परिणाम प्रदर्शित करता है।

 

5. RAIPUR SET TO MAKE HISTORY WITH NATIONAL TRANSGENDER SPORTS MEET –

• Raipur is set to host a landmark national transgender sports meet later this month, marking a significant step towards inclusion and equality in Indian sports. After nearly a decade, transgender athletes will once again get a national platform to showcase their sporting talent, resilience and discipline through a dedicated multi-day sporting event.

National Event Focused on Inclusion

• The National Transgender Sports Meet 2025, themed ‘Samta Ka Mahotsav’, will be held on December 19 and 20 in Raipur. Athletes from several states including Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha are expected to participate. The event is being organised by the Chhattisgarh Mitwa Sankalp Samiti, a community organisation working with transgender and LGBTQ groups, with support from the state department of social welfare.

रायपुर नेशनल ट्रांसजेंडर स्पोर्ट्स मीट के साथ इतिहास रचने को तैयार –

• रायपुर इस महीने के आखिर में एक ऐतिहासिक नेशनल ट्रांसजेंडर स्पोर्ट्स मीट की मेज़बानी करने जा रहा है, जो भारतीय खेलों में समावेश और समानता की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है। लगभग एक दशक के बाद, ट्रांसजेंडर एथलीटों को एक समर्पित कई दिनों के खेल आयोजन के ज़रिए अपनी खेल प्रतिभा, लचीलेपन और अनुशासन को दिखाने के लिए एक बार फिर राष्ट्रीय मंच मिलेगा।

समावेश पर केंद्रित राष्ट्रीय आयोजन

• नेशनल ट्रांसजेंडर स्पोर्ट्स मीट 2025, जिसकी थीम ‘समता का महोत्सव’ है, 19 और 20 दिसंबर को रायपुर में आयोजित किया जाएगा। पंजाब, दिल्ली, उत्तर प्रदेश, झारखंड और ओडिशा सहित कई राज्यों के एथलीटों के इसमें भाग लेने की उम्मीद है। इस आयोजन का आयोजन छत्तीसगढ़ मितवा संकल्प समिति कर रही है, जो ट्रांसजेंडर और LGBTQ समूहों के साथ काम करने वाला एक सामुदायिक संगठन है, जिसे राज्य के समाज कल्याण विभाग का समर्थन प्राप्त है।
